Multiple $1 billion Powerball jackpots boost draw games sales,
Keno sales surpass record, and highest prize payout percentage to date for players
DORCHESTER, MA (July 28, 2026) – State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg announced today that the Massachusetts State Lottery produced an estimated $1.045 billion in net profit for the Commonwealth during the 2026 fiscal year that began July 1, 2025 and ended June 30, 2026. This is the sixth consecutive year the Lottery’s net profit total has topped $1 billion.
"Thanks to our retail partners, loyal customers, and the Lottery team, we are able to provide critical local aid for every community in Massachusetts," said State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. "With this week's launch of online lottery, we will build on our success while supporting early childhood education and care, expanding the Lottery's positive impact across the state."
Mass Lottery revenues rang in at an estimated $5.904 billion.
On the strength of two Powerball jackpots that exceeded the $1 billion mark over the course of the fiscal year, draw games sales totaled $758.7 million, a 12.2 percent increase over FY 2025 ($676.2 million), when only one jackpot between the two multi-state jackpot games surpassed the $1 billion mark. In FY 2024, five jackpots reached the $1 billion mark.
Keno set an all-time high with $1.288 billion in total sales, surpassing the previous record of $1.285 billion set in FY 2025.

"Powerball and some of our in-state draw games helped boost profits as well as Keno reaching a new record in sales. With the support and guidance of Treasurer Goldberg and our Commissioners, we’re excited to have revenue already coming in from online sales and look forward to seeing those net profits support early childhood educational grants.”
With a record prize payout percentage of 74.19, Mass Lottery players won an estimated $4.379 billion in prizes in FY 2026. Prize payouts can fluctuate from year to year based on the schedule or rate at which players cash their prizes.
In FY 2026, Mass Lottery players won 146 prizes valued at $1 million or more. This includes 136 scratch ticket prizes and 10 Powerball prizes. The largest prize won was $25 million on the $50 $25,000,00 Mega Money scratch ticket. Other grand prizes won include one $1 million a year for life prize on the $50 Lifetime Millions scratch ticket, three $15 million prizes, four $10 million prizes, one $5 million prize and twelve $4 million prizes.
The Lottery’s network of retailers earned a $337.1 million in commissions and bonuses in FY 2026.
Scratch ticket sales totaled $3.808 billion.
The Lottery’s administrative costs were an estimated 2.4 percent of overall revenues.
While the FY 2026 figures have not been formally audited, the Lottery does not expect them to change substantially once that annual review process is complete. Lottery officials anticipate completing the finalized financial statement of operations by the end of September.
On July 27, 2026, the Lottery launched Mass Lottery Online featuring a variety of both new and familiar games that registered players age 21 or older can play on a mobile device, tablet, or computer available through its official app and website. Profits generated from online sales will be returned to the Commonwealth to fund a grant program to support early childhood education and care.
Since selling its first ticket in 1972, the Mass Lottery has generated over $167 billion in revenues, awarded over $118 billion in prizes, returned over $35 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth for unrestricted local aid provided to cities and towns, and paid over $9.5 billion in commissions and bonuses to its statewide network of retailers.
