Ireland’s online casino market set to hit €2.5bn, total gambling revenue reaches €2.57bn in 2025
Ireland’s online casino market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by mobile gaming and changing player habits. New data indicates digital gambling has become a mainstream form of entertainment in the country, reports Meanwhile in Ireland.
The market is projected to reach €2.5bn (£2.5bn) in 2025, with revenues rising steadily thanks to participation from local and international players. Mobile gaming remains the primary source of income, contributing to annual sector growth of around 10%. Casino games alone are expected to generate US$1.49bn in 2025, as younger adults raised with smartphones increasingly view online gambling as normal entertainment.
Ireland’s total gambling revenue is forecast to hit €2.57bn (£2.5bn) in 2025, with online casinos leading the market. Casino games account for €1.42bn of this total, making them the strongest segment. Sports betting represents about 15% of gambling activity, while traditional lotteries and gambling machines each make up roughly 10%. Irish users now have access to more than 3,400 games from over 120 suppliers.
Demographic data shows men comprise 51.3% of players, spending around €282.45 per year on average, compared with €84.92 for women. Players aged 35 to 49 are the most active, making up 56% of users, followed by those aged 50 to 64. Analysts predict growth of 2.13% annually through 2030, with market earnings potentially reaching €2.85bn. Average yearly spend per user is projected to reach €504.32.
Online gambling adoption is expected to reach 95.9% of users by 2025. Mobile devices have enabled a “casino in your hand” effect, allowing players to engage during everyday routines. Around one in ten Irish gamblers now manages four or more betting accounts, comparing bonuses, game selections and withdrawal speeds. Sports betting has become part of daily life, with one in ten placing bets while at work, and about 25% of registered players receiving daily notifications to maintain engagement.
Concerns remain over gambling among young people. Research shows that 22.9% of 16-year-olds gambled for money last year, with boys representing around 80% of excessive gambling cases in this age group.
