More than 1,300 people scratched off scratch-off tickets at once.
DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Lottery broke a Guinness World Record Thursday when more than 1,300 people simultaneously scratched off scratch-off tickets, the organization announced at the Iowa State Fair.
The previous record for scratch tickets simultaneously scratched off was 550 people.
Each scratch-off ticket gave people a chance to win $50,000, with a few people able to win up to $40,000 in a drawing.
The lottery said participants each scratched a throwback version of its first game, "Scratch Match & Win!"
The event was organized to celebrate 40 years of the Iowa Lottery's contribution to Iowa.
