Svenska Spel launches SEK 1m fund to support youth sports in Gotland

Initiative will provide annual grants to local sports clubs to expand youth participation across the island.

Key points:

- Ten Gotland sports associations will receive SEK 100,000 each year for equipment, travel and training initiatives

- The program marks Svenska Spel’s shift toward supporting grassroots youth sports alongside its long-standing elite sponsorships

Svenska Spel, Sweden’s state-owned gambling operator, has launched Föreningsdrömmen Gotland (Association Dream Gotland), a new fund that will distribute SEK 1m ($100.900) annually to sports clubs on the Swedish island of Gotland.

The initiative aims to provide more children and young people with opportunities to participate in sports activities, fostering community and personal development regardless of background or circumstances.

Anna Johnson, President and CEO of Svenska Spel, stated: "Sports are an important meeting place for children and young people. It is where joy is born, where dreams grow and where community takes shape. With Föreningsdrömmen, we want to give more people the chance to be involved and feel the joy and belonging that sports create."

The program will award ten Gotland associations SEK 100,000 each annually. Clubs can use the funding for equipment, travel expenses, training camps, or initiatives designed to increase youth participation in sports.

Johnson emphasized the broader social impact of the initiative: "For us, the game is not just about excitement and entertainment. It is also about sharing the joy and contributing to the community around us. When children and youth sports are strengthened, the entire island is strengthened. When we give back, we win together."

Good to know: Svenska Spel recently published 18 regulatory proposals focused on strengthening player protection

Svenska Spel has supported Gotland sports since 1975 and currently sponsors several elite clubs on the island. As Sweden's largest sports sponsor, the company is now expanding its focus from elite to grassroots youth sports through Föreningsdrömmen Gotland.

The application period for the fund opens on November 12, 2025, allowing eligible sports associations across Gotland to apply for the inaugural funding cycle.
