Lottery helps Svenska Spel secure steady footing
Lottery will prove a significant factor for Svenska Spel’s revenue moving forward as the Swedish operator readjusts post-Casino Cosmopol sale.
The latest financial report from Svenska Spel excludes its retail arm as it now considers it discontinued after the last venue was agreed to be sold to a real estate agency.
Regardless, FY25 and Q4 results were up across the board, with full-year net gaming revenue (NGR) coming in at SEK 7.7bn (£628m) as opposed to the SEK 7.6bn in 2024. This constitutes a 2% YoY increase, or SEK 121m more.
The operator also saw operating profit coming up to SEK 2.5bn, a 10% growth YoY compared to the SEK 2.3bn for 2024.
NGR for the last quarter of 2024 came in at SEK 2.1bn, or SEK 37m more YoY for the same period in 2024, up 2%. This increase was supported by a positive performance in the operator’s Luck business, which includes lottery and Eurojackpot games and grew 2% YoY.
Lottery sales were boosted by the relaunch of Svenska Spel’s Lotto product and a steady continuous interest from players in the Eurokajackpot draws. Sweden’s biggest payout last year came from a Eurojackpot ticket, granting the player SEK 1.25bn.
Other areas where Svenska Spel saw revenue growth was in its Sport and Casino segment, which grew 2% YoY in Q4, with tailwinds favouring online casino results. Online revenue for that quarter amounted to 62% of the total Group revenue, which was also up 2% YoY.
Lastly, the operator was backed by the Administrative Court which ruled against a SEK 100m sanction issued by the regulator, Spelinspektionenen, over alleged wrongdoings in 2021.
All in all, Svenska Spel’s results were favourable enough so that the Board of Directors proposed a dividend of SEK 1.8bn.
Anna Johnson, President and CEO of Svenska Spel, said: “The end of the year is characterized by continued positive earnings development and we are exceeding our financial targets for 2025.
“The proposed dividend to the owner of SEK 1.8bn is an important part of Svenska Spel’s contribution to society and reflects the Group’s long-term value creation.”
