New rules boosting the UK Gambling Commission’s knowledge of operators and bringing the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice in line with revised consumer legislation will be introduced.
The Commission has rules in place so that licensees provide it with relevant information about ownership, finances and interests.
Following consultation the Commission has made changes to these rules to take account of the increase in complexity of mergers and acquisitions, and the increased globalisation of gambling.
While some of these changes will come into force on 6 April 2026, the implementation of others will depend on when the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) can enact the changes in the DMCC Act to abolish the ADR regulations.
Tim Miller, Executive Director of Research and Policy, said: “Complex global business structures mean that their operator ownership and interests are not always clear and their financing arrangements are not always straightforward.
“However, changes to financial key event reporting will help us keep an even closer eye on the interests and finances of operators, in addition to making sure reporting requirements are in keeping with global governance arrangements.
